Campaign Story

* Typical cost of capstone projects (including registrations, travel and supplies) is about $1200.
* I am trying to raise $600 as family and school will cover the rest.

Goals for My Fundraiser:

Supporting my capstone project

*** I plan to pursue the project though participation in TSA activities like competitions and community service. ***

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that helps students explore STEM through hands-on projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities.

What is ‘Data-Driven Documentary’

Integrate comprehensive data analysis with creative film production to craft a documentary that uncovers patterns of social injustice and political corruption. The project emphasizes evidence-based storytelling through quantitative and qualitative research.

Components:

Collecting and analyzing statistical data

Conducting extensive research and interviews

Scripting based on findings

Digital film production

Rigorous administrative management of the project timeline.

Why I am pursuing this project (My why)

  1. I am a ‘Strategist’ personality type person with strong ‘innovator’ business potential.
  2. I’m super passionate about directing and producing movies that make a real difference in the world. Right now, I’m working on a documentary about social justice to help fight against political corruption. My goal? To use film to make the world a fairer place..

My plan of action: Competitions and Activities

Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) to join:

TSA – The Technology Student Association encourages innovative thinking, technical research, and project management skills — all of which align perfectly with the student’s strengths and desired tasks.

FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America builds strong business acumen, administrative dexterity, and procedural discipline, which supports the project’s planning and execution phases.

Competitions

TSA – Audio PodcastingThis introductory competition emphasizes digital storytelling and audio production, which are key for a data-driven documentary. It helps build narrative and technical skills that can be applied later to multimedia projects.

FBLA – Business Communication

This introductory FBLA competition focuses on effective presentation and communication skills. It complements the documentary project by emphasizing clear messaging and persuasive communication.

TSA – Digital Video ProductionThis introductory competition hones video production skills including filming, editing, and narrative construction. The focus on visual storytelling directly supports the creation of a compelling documentary.

FBLA – Business PlanThis advanced competition enables students to develop a comprehensive plan for a project or business venture. It helps in structuring the documentary project as a marketable and sustainable initiative.

Community Service:

Local Data-Driven Documentary Workshop

Why it fits: This community service activity leverages the skills from the competitions to engage local residents in storytelling. It also builds community ties and provides a real-world platform for the documentary project.

Implementation: The workshop will be hosted in zip code 30143 during the Spring semester. It includes a series of sessions where students tutor community members on data gathering, digital storytelling, and editing. Local experts and community leaders are invited to provide input.

Skills Development: Community engagement, mentorship, collaborative project execution, technical media skills
